Apple Fan Hires iPhone 3G Line Stand-In For $1,200

A Las Vegas area resident has agreed to pay $1,200 to hire a stand-in for the lineup to purchase Apple's new iPhone Information, which is expected to be available Friday.

eBayer 'Sumrstrm' on Thursday hired fellow eBayer 'Hamidih' to stand in line at the Apple Store at Las Vegas Town Square for Hamidih's "Buy It Now" price of $1,200, according to eBay transaction records.

Given the iPhone Information's $199 price tag, Sumrstrm will end up paying a total of $1,399 for the new Apple device.

Hamidih had advertised the stand-in service with the words, "You don't have to wait, I will do it for you, so you can buy it at your preference."

He's not the only one hoping to profit from the frenzy surrounding the launch of the iPhone Information, which features download speeds up to 2.4 times faster than the current version.

A Bay Area man will hold your place in the line to purchase an iPhone Information at Apple's Chestnut Street store in San Francisco for the much gaudier price of $5,000.

The seller, who is also offering the service through eBay, promised to wait in the line for up to 24 hours, starting Thursday at 8:00 a.m. "As an added bonus, I will also arrange for a limo to pick you up and drop you off at the Apple store," wrote 'JosephAnthonyJoseph,' an eBay member with a feedback score of zero.

In his ad, Joseph promises to donate 90% of the sale price to the animal rights group Farm Sanctuary.

As of early afternoon Thursday, Joseph appeared to have no takers, even though long lines had already formed outside the store, according to media reports.

Perhaps he should try his luck in Vegas.
